IHT Rule Changes - Asset Protection impacts
Changes were made to the Inheritance Tax legislation in October 2007. Many people interpreted these as a doubling of the "ceiling" at which they will start to pay IHT. Not so! Use of the additional allowance between partners is NOT automatic and may disappear if a Will is not in place. Additionally, inadequate planning will leave assets vulnerable in the case of remarriage, divorce or failing health in old age.
